City Relief Commons Training: Engaging Our Homeless Neighbors with Light and Love (2/10)

This Epiphany season, we’re partnering with City Relief for their monthly City Relief Commons Training on Monday, February 10th at 7:30 PM.

This 90-minute Zoom gathering offers an opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced practitioners addressing homelessness, including this month’s featured speaker, Shane Claiborne.

Shane Claiborne is a renowned activist, speaker, and author who has dedicated his life to living out the teachings of Jesus. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to advocating for the homeless and fighting against systemic injustice, Shane’s insights will inspire and equip us to engage with our homeless neighbors with light and love.

Winter Small Groups: A Time to Reflect and Connect

Step into a season of rest and reflection with our Psalm of the Epiphany series. Rooted in the psalms of the church calendar, this series offers guided meditations and opportunities for meaningful conversations. Together, we’ll explore themes of Epiphany in a way that invites connection and spiritual conversation.

Groups will gather during the 6-week window between the week of February 2 and the week of March 9. These gatherings provide a sacred space to pause and grow alongside others.

While most groups are full, there’s still space to join in:

  • Upper West Side Group

  • Grand Central/Midtown Group

Find your group today and be part of this winter’s journey.

Missed Orientation? You Can Still Volunteer!

We are so thankful for the brand-new volunteers who have stepped up to help! However, as we prepare for the fall season and our church’s exciting transition, we could really use 12+ more volunteers to help set us up for success. Your involvement will be key to ensuring everything runs smoothly during this important time.

Why Volunteering is Simple and Flexible:

  • Minimal Time Commitment: You’re only required to arrive 15 minutes before service, making it easy to fit volunteering into your Sunday routine.

  • Flexible Scheduling: With Planning Center, you’re in full control of your schedule. Simply block out the dates when you're unavailable, so you serve when it fits your life. Whether you can commit to serving every month or every other month, we welcome your involvement!

Why Your Help Matters:

Volunteers play a crucial role in making sure our church feels welcoming and well-supported as we transition into the next season. From greeting to hospitality and behind-the-scenes work, every volunteer helps create a smooth, inviting experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Next Steps:

If you're interested in joining the team:

  1. Email Alicia at alicia@goodshepherdnewyork.com for more information.

  2. Or, fill out this form to get started: https://gsny.churchcenter.com/people/forms/344377.

Once we receive your form, I’ll onboard you to our new system and guide you through a simple orientation. We're excited to have you join us!

Thank you for considering how you can be part of this exciting season at our church. Together, we can make a lasting impact!

Youth Ministry

We’re back to school and back to youth ministry at Good Shepherd! All students between grades 6 and 12 are welcome to join us every Sunday morning at 9:30 and Wednesday night from 6-8.

Parents, mark your calendars for these upcoming dates:

  • Youth retreat in Poconos — Oct 4-6 (Details to come . . . We’ll be going back to our favorite Airbnb in the Poconos on a lake, with kayaks!)

Volunteer with GSNY

We would love for you to get plugged into our community and one of the best ways to do that is by volunteering on Sunday Mornings (and beyond!). There are many ways to get involved including greeting, reading scripture, writing prayers, ushering, helping with Kid’s Ministry and beyond. If you’d like to volunteer, or hear more about volunteering at GSNY click the link below to fill out the volunteer form and someone will reach back out to you!

Digital Church, 11am ET

Good Shepherd New York continues to post weekly online gatherings. We know that many are still uncomfortable or unable to attend in-person gatherings and a wider community beyond New York has begun to engage. We continue to move toward each other through these digital gatherings, our digital kid’s program, and our other community initiatives. You can visit our YouTube channel at digitalchurch.nyc and spread the word!

If you live beyond NYC and are interested in joining a digital small group, please email Alex (alex@goodshepherdnewyork.com).
